Flight Instruction · PPL & Instrument Rating
We don't train you to pass a checkride. We train you to be a pilot. That means flying a capable airplane from day one, building real-world judgment, and earning ratings you can actually use.

The PPL program covers everything from your first flight to your checkride — in a Piper Dakota that keeps you honest. You'll build cross-country skills and aircraft handling ability that carry directly into whatever you fly next. Typical timeline is 4–8 months with multi-weekly flying.

The IR program requires a current PPL. The Piper Dakota is an excellent IFR platform — it's the plane you'll actually file and fly in. Training includes both actual and simulated IMC, approach work, and holding patterns. Typical timeline is 3–5 months post-PPL.

Already have your PPL? Get your high-performance endorsement in a Piper Dakota you can actually rent afterward — not a rental-fleet checkout you'll never fly again. Typically 1–2 flights, plus a ground session with a VFG CFI.
Inquire About HP Endorsement →The VFG Philosophy
Most flight schools train in a 172 or a Warrior. These are fine airplanes. But they let students develop habits that become liabilities later — low fuel burns, forgiving flight characteristics, and performance margins that don't exist in the real-world fleet. The Piper Dakota closes that gap.
Training in the Dakota means you learn power management from the start. You develop weight-and-balance discipline because the useful load matters. You get used to planning real fuel stops on real trips. By the time you finish your training, you're already flying the kind of airplane you'll rent after your checkride.
That's the point. We don't graduate students who need another six months to transition into a cross-country capable airplane. We graduate pilots who are already flying one.
Charles Aman
Your Instructor
Charles is a CFI and CFII with around 400 total hours. He started VFG because the standard training pipeline produces pilots who are certificated but not yet capable — students who pass checkrides in forgiving trainers and then struggle with anything that has real performance. Training in the Piper Dakota closes that gap from day one.
Expect direct, structured lessons with clear standards. You'll know exactly where you stand after every flight.
